Les Tatas Sombas

Un tata ou tata somba est une ancienne fortification d'Afrique de l'Ouest. Le mot désigne tantôt la muraille de terre crue entourant un village — l'enceinte —, tantôt le village fortifié lui-même, voire une véritable cité fortifiée, un centre politique et militaire. Tata Somba se trouve à Kouaba.

Kouaba est l'un des neuf arrondissements de la commune de Natitingou, dans le département de l'Atacora. Il est situé au nord-ouest du Bénin, en pays otammari, à proximité de la frontière avec le Togo.

A tata or tata somba is an ancient fortification in West Africa. The word sometimes designates the mud wall surrounding a village - the enclosure -, sometimes the fortified village itself, or even a real fortified city, a political and military center. Tata Somba is located in Kouaba.

Kouaba is one of the nine districts of the commune of Natitingou, in the department of Atacora. It is located in the northwest of Benin, in Otammari country, near the border with Togo.

Eine Tata oder Tata Somba ist eine alte Festung in Westafrika. Das Wort bezeichnet manchmal die Lehmmauer, die ein Dorf umgibt – die Einfriedung –, manchmal das befestigte Dorf selbst oder sogar eine echte befestigte Stadt, ein politisches und militärisches Zentrum. Tata Somba befindet sich in Kouaba.

Kouaba ist einer der neun Bezirke der Gemeinde Natitingou im Departement Atacora. Es liegt im Nordwesten von Benin, im Otammari-Land, nahe der Grenze zu Togo.
