Marché Dantokpa

Le marché Dantokpa (ou tout simplement Tokpa) se situe à Cotonou, la capitale économique du Bénin ; il est le plus grand marché à ciel ouvert d'Afrique de l'Ouest

Dantokpa signifie en langue fon « sur les bords de la lagune de Dan ».

Dan est, selon les croyances animistes béninoises, une divinité représentée par le serpent, dieu de la prospérité et de l'abondance.

Situé au Bénin, dans le 4e arrondissement de Cotonou, le marché Dantokpa, initialement construit sur 12 hectares en 1963, atteint en 2010 près de 18,7a 2 hectares et envahit les habitations avoisinantes.

Le marché est organisé en zones.

Les grossistes de vivriers côtoient les vendeurs de produits de l’artisanat local et des matériaux de construction en gros et au détail.

La vocation technique est marquée avec les ventes de pièces détachées, la quincaillerie de construction (marché de gros de bois de construction, fer à béton, ciment…), les outils agricoles, les nombreux ateliers de réparation mécanique. On y trouve des fabricants d'arts, des meuniers, matelassiers, cantiniers et menuisiers.

Dantokpa means “on the banks of the Dan lagoon” in the Fon language.

Dan is, according to Beninese animist beliefs, a deity represented by the serpent, god of prosperity and abundance.

Food wholesalers rub shoulders with wholesale and retail sellers of local craft products and construction materials.

The technical vocation is marked with sales of spare parts, construction hardware (wholesale market for construction timber, concrete iron, cement, etc.), agricultural tools, numerous mechanical repair workshops. There are art manufacturers, millers, mattress makers, canteen workers and carpenters.

Lebensmittelgroßhändler arbeiten eng mit Groß- und Einzelhändlern lokaler Handwerksprodukte und Baumaterialien zusammen.

Der technische Beruf ist geprägt vom Verkauf von Ersatzteilen, Baubeschlägen (Großmarkt für Bauholz, Betoneisen, Zement usw.), landwirtschaftlichen Werkzeugen und zahlreichen mechanischen Reparaturwerkstätten. Es gibt Kunsthandwerker, Müller, Matratzenmacher, Kantinenarbeiter und Tischler.
